Piedras Marcadas
rock art index page
The Piedras Marcadas site lies along the same volcanic escarpment on Albuquerque's western border as the other parts of the National Petroglyph Monument. The trailhead, only slightly removed from a busy city intersection, presents an inauspicious beginning to a walk through the canyon. Soon, however, the surrounding housing developments and other signs of the modern world recede over the canyon rim, and the visitor enters a timeless realm, dominated by birds, rabbits, lizards, and Kachina ghosts.
